My 90 year old father says grandmother had to have this almanac every year. I saw the offer and decided to give it a try. I read a few pages of the almanac and almost invariably find something I can talk to father about. Today it was a bit about putting aspirin in the ground when planting tomatoes. He'd never done it. (I've never planted tomatoes.) So I like it a lot. Thanks.

Submitted by

We bought this for our daughter who is getting married in 2017. She is hoping for some insight as to what the weather will be!

Submitted by

I ordered this for my Dad but the two replicas almanacs were not in my box as the offer stated -just the hardback book and the calendar.

Submitted by

Sorry about that. Please call 1-800-ALMANAC (256-2622) and we'll send you out some replacements right away.

In the 2017 almanc there is an ad for a Special Anniversary Thermometer. Page 242. It has "The Old Farmers Almanac Celebrating 225 Years" with the sun printed on it. Its listed as Limited-Edition Collectibles but I can not find it to purchase. Can you help me?

Submitted by

1/19/2017 - It will be back in stock in about 2 weeks. Please check back.

I read the OFA from front to back. It not only provides a few smiles but has guided me in planting for over fifty years. You can't go wrong with the OFA.

I have receive an almanac over the last couple of years but this year, nothing has arrived. I have a small garden that spreads roughly 2 acres and all my planting is done referencing the almanac.

I love the almanac but wonder if mine will come this year.

Submitted by

I would love a larger print Almanac if possible.

I live on Soc. Security and have no discretionary funds. Do you have a deep discount price for us 88 year olds? I could afford $5 the first of October. I do not need or want the hard cover as I don't have room but is there an electronic version? I have Rheumatoid arthritis and can't write anymore but can use the keyboard on my computer. Keep up the good work and Happy Birthday, and thanks for a response. Lucile

Submitted by

Submitted by

I have purchased and used an Old Farmer's Almanac every year for the last 60 years. They helped me for the first 10 years and then my hubby and me for the last 50 years, raise perfect gardens. Everyone says we have "green hands, not just green thumbs" and I tell them to use the Almanac and do everything by the 'signs'; that's what has let us have lots of produce, etc. even when all the gardens around our area are not producing.

Submitted by

Truly an original.

Submitted by

My Grandfather and Grandmother use to use their Farmer's Almanac just about every day, if not ever day. it's been years since I have really seen one in person, saw this add with the 2 replica almanacs and knew that I just had to order one for me and one for a friend. Thanks for all of the wonderful years of information, facts, fiction, recipes and just plain Old Fun.

Submitted by

I have relied on the ALMANAC for weather forecasts for years. My company provides underground construction and the scheduling of jobs is crucial because our jobs shut down in the rain. The ALMANAC is so accurate I have people calling me to give them forecasts. I love this little book.

Submitted by

I love it.

Submitted by

I think the hardcover edition of the Old Farmer's Almanac is far better than the paperback version. The hardcover edition transforms a mere paperback into a hardcover book complete with dust cover.

Considering the fact that the 2017 edition is the 225th Anniversary Edition, the hardcover edition is a perfect keepsake. Thumbing through the pages reveals a replica of the very first edition ever printed!

Submitted by

where is your Canadian edition of the old farmers almanac?

Submitted by

Here is the link to the Canadian Edition eh.

Submitted by

I like the Anniversary Edition so much, I decided to give as Christmas gifts this year.

Submitted by

I like the larger Addition this year! THANK YOU SIR

Submitted by

I give it a 1 star simply because you are killing trees by not offering a digital copy.

Submitted by

I think it's nice to have a paper copy. You can keep it forever, it's traditional, it's like a big magazine. It's not like the Almanac is a one-time read, it's something you can read over and over. They already have this awesome website, which is free.

Submitted by

You don't "kill" trees. You cut them down and pulp them. Many people, particularly older people and people in some rural areas, do not have access to digital media.
Your self-gratifying, superior attitude is showing.

Submitted by

I agree with Joe Procopio.

Submitted by

Plus, when trees are cut down, responsible companies replant. it is called CONSERVATION and Reforestation! When we cut the OAKS off our farm, we replanted 10,000 trees a year for three years, and that was a whole lot more than we cut down.

You need to learn the whole story before you spout off.

NOW, I will get off my soap box!

Submitted by

guess you should do research before you leave low or negetive comments... they DO have digital reading!!!

Submitted by

If the SHTF and you have no electricity and your digital equipment stops working how are you going to read the information

Submitted by

Oh boo freakin' hoo.

Submitted by

We do offer digital formats. The Almanac is availalble on kindle, nook, and there is an online edition too.

Submitted by

We appreciate the online and paper editions! Don;t listen to the nay-sayers! Thank you!

Submitted by

ever think that it might be Hemp paper?

Submitted by

I have stock in HEMP. I think Hemp is our future. It's just getting everyone on the same page so to speak.

Submitted by

Not everyone has digital access, especially the elderly.

Submitted by

Love your book!!!!

Farmers Almanac is a must for anyone who enjoys reading about the weather and life events that affect us all. I live in the Northern Adirondacks and the entire surrounding area is farm country. The Almanac is the bible for weather and activity in our area...Thanks for the many years of entertainment and folklore!

Submitted by

Is it up near Stillwater Reservoir / Beaver River, up past Old Forge? My parents have had a camp up there since 1969 and it's beautiful up there. Haven't been up in the Adirondacks in 10 years, unfortunately, because we live 8 hours away from where my mom lives in Central NY (my father passed away in May of 2015). But it is absolutely gorgeous up in that area!

Submitted by

Been using this book for over 30 years and love it

Submitted by

I love these almanac's and calendars. My family have been using the Old Farmers Almanac since I can remember and that's since the 50's. My dad used it for planting crop's and fruits and vegetables , even for spraying and harvesting all our fruits and vegetables. Even for raising our animals. I use it for planting our flowers and vegetables and fruits now that I am not farming anymore. It is very accurate and I will continue to use it all the time. If you want a sure shot at growing and raising crops and animals , then this is the book to get. Thank's for a great product.

The last couple of decades, I have used the Almanac as my standard graduation gift. I give several a year. They are not for the student to read this year, but to save fifty years, to see what the year was like the day they were graduated.

Submitted by

Growing up on a farm in the '40s and '50s in the central valley of CA, my father always referenced the Farmer'a Almanac planting, harvesting, etc.
I have started purchasing the Almanac for my guy and my grandson. All Though they are not farmers, they enjoy reading it.
Thank You for a great job, with a wealth of information.

Submitted by

What a deal! I'm sure I will get a lot of use out of these items.

It has dental care, but not surgery.

Submitted by

Haven't bought Almanac in years! I really look forward to the new edition.

Submitted by

I've been reading this almanac for 40 years, it has never let me down. I highly recommend it.

Submitted by

Have bought "Old Famers' Almanac" for years! Even the advertising, is interesting! The only problem I've had, is that NOT many retail stores carry it anymore -- locally it's ACE Hardware, which it's easy to get to! The clerks all know where The Almanac's kept!

Submitted by

I love "Old Farmer's Almanac" I grew up with it, my grandparents farmed by it. I love the information it provides on so many levels of interest. I refer to it every year for planting, pruning, and harvesting information. The weather is fairly accurate and makes planning future activities a lot easier. People who have never acquired an "OFA" don't know what they are missing!

Is the "OFA" in the Guiness World Record Book? I am sure that it should be! LOL Have a great season, looking forward to my new issue!

Submitted by

I WILL BUY IN FUTURE BECAUSE I BELIEVE GMO'S HAVE GOT TO BE BAD FOR HUMAN CONSUMSION AND NEED TO KNOW WHEN WHERE TO GROW
TO HELP OTHERS IF NEEDED AND FAMILIES

Submitted by

Recently retired. Now have time to try new/different things and I'm counting on OFA to assist me with some of them. I have never had a green thumb but that may be because I didn't have OFA to help guide me. That sounds like a good excuse, doesn't it? LOL!

Submitted by

Nevermind my last question. Found the return envelope!

Submitted by

At 75, I can say that I have had the Farmers Almanac in our house for 50 of those years. I love it and wouldn't be without it.
Thanks.

Submitted by

As farmers my parents always had the Farmers Almanac and consulted it many times. I still check it out for planting, weather and fun.

Submitted by

thank you!!

Submitted by

How can one do anything accurately without it???

Submitted by

I always enjoy the Old Farmer's Almanac

Submitted by

There is some never heard comment out there and while it most closely represented "urban legend" to me it somehow indicates that there are TWO versions of the F/A and not the one I have been glancing at off and on for fifty plus years...
Would you kindly confirm for me here so I might set the record straight.

Tks.,

Hello, are gift cards available?
Thank you.

Submitted by

Gift cards are a great idea. We do not have that capability yet but we'll work on it!

Submitted by

You could offer a "promo code" gift card. Allow one party to purchase a promo code for any of your products which can be passed on as an electronic gift card. Recipient selects product, enters gift promo code number and completes checkout.

Thank you for the suggestion. That almost solves our problem but there are a still a few issues like tracking outstanding balances.

My godmother is from New York but lives in Puerto Rico. She has been looking for a version of the Almanac that covers planting times in PR. Do you have one and is there a way to order it outside of Puerto Rico? It would be great to surprise her with it at Christmas.

Submitted by

Unfortunately we do not cover Puerto Rico.

Is there an easy way to get old copies of the OFA from 1993-2014? I would like to give the set as a gift.

Submitted by

We are not aware of any packaged sets being sold. Try eBay and even Amazon. They both sell older editions.

Submitted by

I would like to buy 2 Almanacs for my son and son in law.

Submitted by

There's no way to buy both the print and the digital together.

Submitted by

Ah, but there is: buy both the print and the digital together.

Submitted by

I tried the Digital since there is no shipping. And I really like it! The way the pages turn like a real book is really cool--even a sound of the page turn. I check the information from work which is nice. I still like the print for reading but this is really handy, too.

Submitted by

Good evening, may I ask do you have electronic gift cards for sale? I like purchasing gift cards.
Thank you.

Submitted by

Gift cards are a great idea. We do not have that capability yet but we'll work on it! We're also thinking about gift packs so that folks can buy Almanacs to stuff in every stocking.

Submitted by

Perhaps offering to buy the Electronic version as a gift would be a good idea? You could offer an auto-email notification/pick up system, with a 30 day pick up window. And for an added cost of say $1.00 to mail a special printed card to tell the person of his waiting gift? This would help to bring more people to know of the joys of the Almanac!

I personally use it when ever I am moving from one state to another for the extended weather reports.

Dear Ms. Kiligore,
Thank you for your helpful response. It helps me.

I read about it in polisch book. Author was in Arizona, and advertise your Almanac and its hole, upper left. :-)
Is there anybody who might be able to sent former Almanac to Poland, so that I would be able to check usefulness that hole :-).

Looking at the long range forecast, I am wondering if I am in zone 2 or zone 3? (Atlantic corridor or Appalachians), the line on the map seems to run right down the middle of my area. I am west of Richmond and east of Roanoke in central Virginia (Lake Anna area). The forecast for the two zones are slightly different, by the way....

Submitted by

If moving is not an option, you could go with the one you like best or visit this page and enter your zip code. It will spit out your Almanac weather region.

I am ordering mine today becuase all I have been hearing is that this winter will be worse than last here in the Metropolitain Washington DC area. Where no one knows how to drive in the snow and with just the hint of snow all the Milk, Bread and Toiletpaper will be gone off of the shelves in all the grocery stores. The Federal Government is the only World Government that closes down when it snows. Unreal!!!

Submitted by

We go south to Texas for the winter, does it cover there also or just Canada ?

Submitted by

Any where from Houston west
it doesn't snow that way.

I also love reading the Old Farmer's Almanac each and every year. I've kept all my old ones and refer back to them quite a bit! Looking forward to this new one...

Many thanks, Francis, for taking the time to share your comment. We appreciate your continued patronage and hope the new Almanac meets your expectations! Sincerely, your OFA editors

We agree. Thank you.

I ordered the Hardcover edition even though the shipping is the same as the regular book. I also got the FA for kids volumes 1-4. Still the same amount in shipping.

I am still relatively new to gardening and I was so eager to get everything in the ground and started in my green house. My friend has an almanac calendar and went by those dates on what to do when. I thought it was strange as I had my squash in the ground 2 weeks before hers from transplants, and hers grew twice the size of mine and produced more than twice as much! I planted mine at her house because we did a garden together since I have limited space where I live. They were right next to each other and there was a very notable difference. I am going to be studying this book from the moment I get it! I've got to learn this stuff lol!

Submitted by

Thank you SO much KirstenElaine, for your comment! I have for many years wondered how, if grown side by side, plants set out earlier would compare to those planted by moon-phase guidelines.

Submitted by

The story goes in our family that my dad thought his dad's old fashioned planting by the moon was silly. He set up his half of the garden his own way. My grandfather planted by the OFA calendar. Dad got a gorgeous garden. Granddad got the vegetables. Dad planted by the moon ever after.

Submitted by

does the almanac include gardening times and tips about everything i can find online and does it include weather as well because i am also a first time gardener and i am doing herbs next year as well as a lot more so i wanted to know what kind of info it contained

Submitted by

I grew up on a big farm with my grandparents, and they didn't do anything without checking the almanac first. My grandpa actually taught me how to read with the almanac, and I've been hooked ever since. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of my grandpa and our times spent reading "the good ol' almanac" as he affectionately called it. I wouldn't trade those days for the whole world.

Submitted by

The Old Farmer's Almanac has been part of my life for the past 60 some odd years. My Dad would read my bedtime story from it when I was a child, and when I began to read, I would read from it along side my Dad. It has been my "go to" for gardening, home remedies, recipes, and of course, the weather. I anxiously look forward to the new issue every year, and begin reading it as soon as I get it. Thanks Old Farmer's Almanac for being an integral part of my life!

Submitted by

This isn't about the Almanac but rather your store. Perused the kitchen items and was so happy to see the grape designs, especially the kitchen towels and potholders. Can hardly wait til payday so I can place my order, plus get the grape shopping bag!

Thanks for a great website and all of your helpful information.

Do your company still distributed the almanac books that has the different days and numbers of lottery numbers? Such as daily cash 3's, play 4's, fantasy 5's and the lottery.

I follow the Old Farmer's Almanac closely for almost every aspect for practical information, especially gardening, lawn development, shrub and tree planting and animal care. I have been reading this almanac since I learned to read at the age of 7 years, when my grand father introduced it to me as I sat beside him or in his lap on our front porch. It was the first thing he read every morning before breakfast, then the Bible. It is a time honored tradition in our family. I now read my hard copy with my grandson looking on, in much the same way as did I as a child. I thank you good folk at OFA for all of the hard work in research and development you put into each publication! God bless and Merry Christmas!

how long do you boil beets to get the skin off and how long do you can them for in a hot water bath

Submitted by

Hi Lori,
I have found that with medium sized Beets if you just place in cold water and bring to the boil, then
reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 45 minutes you will be able to gently peel the Beet with no problem at all

So, what's not to like about Farmer's Almanac?
One of the best reads there is.

Submitted by

my grandfather was a farmer in the island and he send for the almanac every year. I had fun reading and planting along with him but I enjoyed the horoscope and the astrological
predictions most.

Submitted by

My aunt used the almanac to plant her garden every year. She had wonderful supply of everything she planted. One year someone talked her out of using the almanac. It was the only time she lost everything in it. "Never again", she said. She went back to her old way of doing it.

Always packed with hours of fascinating, useful and entertaining reading. But I was disappointed recently when I bought the Southwest edition at Home Depot and saw how chocked-full of ads it was. I hadn't looked at an Almanac for a long time and didn't remember that being the case years ago. Personally (make a note of this, marketing department), I wouldn't mind paying more for an ad-free version. I mean, jeez, aren't we bombarded enough on a daily basis with advertising? I don't know if the hardcover is the same, but I sure hope not. It's a book, not a magazine...

Submitted by

RussG,  Ads have been part of the Almanac for over 100 years now (looking through the old ads can be great fun). The ads are what allows us to produce and distribute our content for the lowest price possible. Curiously, when our readership has been surveyed many report that they enjoy looking through the ads and will even thumb through them first. While our Ad Sales Department probably disagrees with you, we do sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write us.
